Job Description Summary The Information Analysis Unit (IAU) within the University of Maryland Police Department operates from an all-threats, all-hazards approach to safety and security facilitating information sharing between other regional agencies and the community to address various challenges. Under general supervision, the Law Enforcement Analyst serves as the department's analytical resource by conducting tactical, operational, and strategic crime analysis to identify emerging crime trends, assess threats, and produce intelligence products that support campus safety operations, investigations, and informed decision-making. Physical Demands: Typical office environment. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift and transport computer supplies and equipment (5-20 lbs). May be required to work hours during non-business work week. May be considered essential and required to work overtime on an as needed basis. Preferences: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Science, Criminal Justice, or related field from an accredited college or university, that may include coursework in statistics, data analysis, research methods, and theories of crime/criminal behavior. Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

Three (3) years of experience in crime analysis, research, investigations, or law enforcement. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of basic operations, services, and activities of a crime analysis program. Knowledge of principles and practices of program development and implementation. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
