POSITION SUMMARY: The Business Planning and Analysis (BP&A) team is responsible for capturing, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting financial and operational data in support of the Specialty Products (including Asphalt, Petrochemicals, and Petroleum Coke/Sulfur) commercial organization. Primary responsibilities for this role center around supporting the Asphalt Value Chain and driving R&M financial analytics of actual results, in support of MPC’s digital modernization agenda. The role will interface with the Asphalt & commercial team and will utilize and support the newly developed Asphalt Suite tool and data visualizations as needed by the business and BP&A. The Analyst will regularly interface with senior leaders, managers, and staff as well as personnel in the BP&A, Commercial, IT, and Accounting organizations. This position will report to the Director, Specialty Products BP&A and be based in the Findlay, OH office. RESPONSIBILITIES: Run monthly Asphalt Metrics: generate and analyze monthly performance metrics, including supporting input analytics such as values based on Poten index. Interface with IT as needed to maintain the new Asphalt Suite tool and associated reports. Assist in development of digital modernization tools & processes for Specialty Products, leveraging the Insights & Discovery Platform and Power BI visualization tool. Work with IT Analytics & Innovation team to design, develop, and generate data visualizations that utilize the Asphalt Suite and I&DP datalake to help generate performance insights and support commentary. Maintain Asphalt Suite data including asphalt raw material (additive) cost, market index cost, product differentials, truck rack differentials, and other adjustments Own Specialty Products distribution cost reporting including barge, rail, truck, and pipeline costs for the Asphalt, Petcoke & Sulfur, and Petrochemicals. Partner with commercial business leaders to drive insights on optimal cost structure for Asphalt business. Represent BP&A as part of a team supporting all Refining & Marketing (R&M) financial reporting initiatives. Compile, analyze and report on a variety of Specialty Products performance metrics and internal/external reports (e.g., EIA weekly and monthly reporting, Asphalt Institute annual reporting, etc.) Collaborate (act as lead resource) with other BP&A Analysts to support monthly analytics and commentary based on the asphalt business results Support ad-hoc financial, operational analyses & marketing reports/website maintenance Provide business continuity support for other BP&A team members MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum undergraduate degree Business, Finance, or Accounting required or related discipline is preferred Six (6) years in Accounting, Finance, or related field SAP and Right-Angle experience preferred High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required Experience with analytical tools such as Power BI is preferred SKILLS: Ability to multitask Strong analytical skills Strong collaborative skills Adaptability, Authentic Communicator, Building Trust, Business Acumen, Continuous Improvement Mindset, Critical Thinking, Ongoing Learning & Self-Development, Positive Attitude, Relationship Building, Results Driven As an energy industry leader, our career opportunities fuel personal and professional growth.
