Typical Accountabilities: • Subject Matter Expertise • Provide subject matter expertise to major capital projects: • provide technical direction and leadership and ensure the proper specification and design of equipment • provide technical support to the project delivery organisation throughout the project lifecycle • provide technical support to the receiving organisation to ensure that specified technical performance criteria are met during start-up and early operation • Identify breakthrough and emerging technologies, or devise improvements in existing technologies, that can be successfully applied to give business benefit. • Recognise where there are gaps between business needs and known and emerging technologies, and develop strategies to close technology gaps. • Assess the likely success and benefits of technologies and gain support and commitment to these opportunities from senior management. • Develop creative and efficient methods of pursuing and progressing development programmes to successful implementation. • Ensure that appropriate processes and standards are developed and deployed (including training, education and awareness). • • Project Technical Management • Act as the Project Technical Manager on projects. • Work collaboratively with (and where necessary manage) technical and business resources from internal and external sources, to ensure that appropriate technical solutions are specified and delivered. • Evaluate the technical competence of the external design and engineering staff employed on projects and technical developments to ensure they have the necessary skills to meet the needs of the project / technical development.
