POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW The New School Libraries: Delivery Services Department is seeking 6+ Student Worker Library Assistants who will support the university's mission of preparing students to understand, contribute to, and succeed in a rapidly changing society, thereby making the world a better and more just place. Our work contributes to this mission by offering consistent and reliable service to all students, faculty, and staff of The New School. CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES Safely transport library books between various library locations and delivery points Properly package library books for shipment using appropriate materials to protect books from damage during transit Responsible for physically loading and unloading packages by hand, including placing, pushing, lifting, carrying, and pulling the items in an efficient and safe manner Inspect incoming and outgoing library books for damage, missing pages, or other issues, and report any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel Prepare shipping labels and necessary documentation for accurate tracking and delivery confirmation Coordinate with the supervisor to prioritize book delivery based on departmental demand and urgency Perform other duties as assigned by the department supervisor QUALIFICATIONS Ability to lift, push, or carry up to 50 lbs routinely Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills Attention to detail Must be punctual and capable of following written and verbal instructions as to how the packages must be moved Proficient in the safe handling and operation of sharp objects, including box cutters, utility knives, and other cutting tools Preference to individuals with experience operating heavy machinery such as motorized hand trucks WORK MODE: This position is in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. #LI-DNI Hourly Rate: $17.00-$18.00 per hour WHY JOIN US?
