Position Summary • Responsible for providing direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under the supervision of the behavioral health nursing staff and/or nursing supervisor; reporting on changes in the conditions of patients to the appropriate staff members; interacting and coping effectively with diverse populations in sudden, stressful situations resulting from trauma, and physical and mental illness; and performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of Southern Illinois healthcare and other local, state, and federal guidelines. • Assists licensed nursing personnel in giving patient care, caring for the personal needs and comfort of the patients. As a sitter, they will be required to assist, other nursing departments sitting with patients that may be a danger to themselves or others.
Education
• High School diploma or equivalent Licenses and Certification • Basic life support (BLS) required

• Direct patient care: general personal care of the patient (bathing, bed changing, feeding, activity; vital signs as examples) as directed. • Reports all pertinent findings to RN staff. • Promotes the safety of self, staff, and patients. • Ongoing patient and family education. • Completes all annual in-service training and competencies. • Maintains confidentially of all patients, whether in-patients or out-patients.
