Job Title: Research Technician Department: FAES | Animal Sciences A part-time Research Technician position is available in the Aderibigbe Nutrition Lab within the Department of Animal Sciences. Based in Wooster, Ohio, this position will support ongoing poultry nutrition research through live-bird trials and laboratory analyses. Job Description We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and organized individual to assist with research activities focused on poultry nutrition, gut physiology, and metabolic health. The Research Technician will support broiler and laying hen nutrition studies conducted under approved Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols. Primary responsibilities include assisting with daily animal care, feed allocation, sample collection, and accurate recordkeeping during experimental trials (20%). The technician will also perform a variety of laboratory procedures associated with sample processing and analysis, including serum and digesta assays, proximate, fiber, and mineral analyses, indigestible marker quantification, and other routine wet-laboratory techniques (50%).

Experience

with tissue sectioning, microscopy, and microbiome analysis is highly desirable. Familiarity with laboratory equipment and analytical instruments, including centrifuges, drying ovens, freeze dryers, spectrophotometers, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems, viscometers, and PCR-based instrumentation, is preferred. Additional responsibilities include maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organization; preparing reagents and solutions; assisting with inventory management and ordering of supplies; and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety, environmental health and safety (EHS), and regulatory requirements (10%). The technician may also assist with data entry, basic statistical summaries, data organization, and preparation of materials for reports, abstracts, presentations, and publications (20%). Minimum

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Ability to follow established laboratory and animal care protocols. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective recordkeeping abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and basic data management.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field.

Experience

working with live animals, particularly poultry.

Experience

with laboratory sample processing and analytical techniques. Documented experience with indigestible nutrient marker analyses, including titanium dioxide and chromic oxide methodologies. Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation.

Experience

with tissue sectioning, microscopy, microbiome analyses, or molecular biology techniques. The ideal candidate is dependable, eager to learn, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
