$21.75 - $34.50 hourly Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek. Job Type Unclassified Department Flood Control District About the Position As a Maintenance Specialist, you will work outdoors year-round in Arizona’s desert environment, taking a hands-on role in building and maintaining the flood control structures that protect our communities. Your skilled construction and maintenance expertise directly supports public safety while preserving the natural landscape. Beyond flood protection, the Flood Control District maintains multi-use facilities, including hiking trails, bike paths, and open spaces that enhance the quality of life across Maricopa County. This is more than a maintenance role; it’s an opportunity to strengthen infrastructure, to protect neighborhoods, and care for community spaces residents use and value every day. The Flood Control District of Maricopa County provides essential public services to residents and visitors, which may require employees to work alternate work schedules. Working Conditions
Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware The position generally conducts business out in the field utilizing various hand tools for numerous construction and maintenance duties, including shovels, rakes, pickaxes, brooms, and varying-sized electric and hand tools. Familiarity with four-wheel-drive capabilities and self-recovery winching techniques will be needed from time to time. Protective Equipment Required Fieldwork will often be conducted in remote locations under potentially extreme weather environments. Attire for the position will be provided and maintained by Maricopa County and may include general construction and/or field inspection PPE required to perform duties daily. This includes, but is not limited to, safety-toe footwear, hard hats, high-visibility vests, eye protection, and durable pants such as jeans.
