This is what you will do: The Director, Patient Access, will drive the Alexion patient access strategy for all US approved products. The patient access strategy is intended to ensure patients have access to therapy via needed support programs and services which will support patient initiation and adherenceby removing non-clinical barriers to therapy. The specific focus for this role is: Reimbursement Services, Financial Assistance Programs, Free drug programs, Specialty Pharmacy Enhanced Contracting, and policy impact to patients. This role will work with the Patient Services Leadership, Market Access partners, legal, compliance, and therapeutic area management to align on strategic programs impacting the entire Alexion portfolio. This role leads the Patient Services Access team, and will own the development, implementation, and external vendor management for patient access programs for current products as well as developing strategy for future launches. Reporting to the Senior Director of Patient Services Operational Effectiveness, this role will provide critical strategic leadership within Patient Services and across Alexion's US organization. You will be responsible for: The Director, Patient Access, will drive the overarching strategy for Alexion's Financial Assistance, Free Drug and Reimbursement programs including purpose, design, approval, implementation, and ongoing management. Lead the process to design and recommend patient access strategies that are aligned to brand objectives, patient needs, and commercial goals. Lead the Patient Access Strategy team and manage the oversight of existing patient programs including vendor management, business rules, KPIs, and success factors to understand areas of continued improvement. Work with launch teams to understand needed strategies and support for new products including pre-policy access strategies developed in partnership with Market Access, Medical, Compliance, and Legal. Establish, and maintain cross-functional partnership within Patient Services, and with other functions, including Market Access, Marketing, Legal, Compliance and Government Affairs to create tactics that enable compliant access for patients to Alexion therapies. Partner with key stakeholders to create a vision and measures of success of how new insurance opportunities can drive overall patient health, access to therapy via insurance, and overall brand success. Collaborate with Market Access Team to understand payer access strategies for Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid books of business and its impact on patient access tactics. Follow changes to business environment to understand their impact on existing programs or the need for new programs including eligibility, support levels, and program scope Monitor the US healthcare environment in close partnership with Market Access, Government Affairs, and others to understand environmental factors and their impact to patients. Work with Patient Services Operational Leaders on the successful implementation, training, and day to day execution of the different support programs Proactively monitor and communicate information and results to cross-functional partners., as compliant,to allow for informed business decisions and discussions Establish process for collection and sharing of best practices Always conduct work consistent with Astra Zeneca’s values: Put Patients First, Do the Right Thing, Play to Win, Be Entrepreneurial, and Follow the Science. You will need to have: Bachelor’s Degree required 5+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience 5+ years of Patient Services experience 5+ years of Reimbursement and Financial Assistance experience, Leadership and cross-functional partnership experience Experience using critical thinking to align corporate strategies and current challenges to develop recommendations Understanding of evolving laws for financial assistance and free drug programs Passion for patient-centric strategies Strong verbal, presentation, and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills, knowledge of business protocol, time management and organizational skills. Ability to coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously. Ability to work independently.
