Job Summary

The Monitor Technician Telemetry is responsible for ongoing surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.

Essential Functions

C. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Duties

include but are not limited to: 1. Measure and interprets patients’ heart rhythm. 2. Initiates and discontinues monitoring on admission, transfer or discharge, including patient information in Central Telemetry. 3. Maintains Logbook. 4. Answers phone and communicates clearly when receiving information from other units. 5. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm. 6. Orients and mentors new staff. 7. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting Central Monitoring. 8. Troubleshoots with nursing staff and Biomedical Engineering as appropriate. 9. Gives report to oncoming shift, 10. Maintains stock and designated equipment including telemetry box and lead wires. 11. Reports defective equipment and failures to Biomedical Engineering. 12. Performs other duties as requested. Demonstrates fiscally prudent use of equipment and supplies. 2. Utilizes charge process for supplies/equipment. D. PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS: 1. Completes projects/assignments within projected time frames and expectations. 2. Participates in committees and task forces as requested. 3. Performs other duties as assigned within classification. 4. Assists with the orientation process of new Monitor Technicians. Part I: Hospital-Wide Standards A. Qualifications

High School Required or GED Required less than 1 year Previous health care experience required Required or currently enrolled in a nursing program preferred Preferred Monitor Technician experience preferred. Preferred Full command of English Language. Sufficient physical ability and perceptive acuity to perform patient care functions.
