Description of Work **This is an Anticipated Vacancy** This position is located at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, North Carolina. This is a medium custody male facility. This position reports to the Maintenance/Construction Technician IV and is responsible for technical guidance and supervision to grounds crew. Key
Duties
Include: (1) Managing construction, modification and general upkeep of grounds areas, including the standard application of horticultural practices. (2) Conferring with superiors concerning proposed work assignments and suggesting practical ways to schedule work procedures. (3) Supervise assigned crews in mowing lawns, constructing sidewalks, parking lots, formal gardens and in general grounds maintenance activities. (4) Supervise equipment operators and grounds personnel in excavating areas, removing trees and wrecking old buildings. (5) Supervise the repair of surfaced roads and the removal of trash, leaves and snow. (6) Prepare requisitions for supplies, materials and equipment. (7) Confer with nurserymen concerning plant adaptability, accepted usage and sources of supply. (8) Coordinate grounds upkeep work with building maintenance personnel so that equipment and materials can be more efficiently used. (9) Perform related work and other duties as needed. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Considerable knowledge of the horticultural practices and techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and grounds. Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs, plants, and flowers and their uses in landscape work. Ability to adjust and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes. Ability to supervise and maintain effective working relationships with crew and other grounds personnel. Salary Grade Range: $33,902 - $59,327 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
