About the Role As an Associate Editor, you will play a key role in supporting Journal Editors and Editorial Board Members (EBMs) to ensure rapid and high-quality peer review, and publication. You will support content delivery by managing peer review for specific manuscripts across our journals and making editorial decisions. Success in this role requires strong time management skills, broad scientific knowledge, and a commitment to excellence in editorial practices. Key performance indicators include fast turnaround times, rigorous peer review standards, and exceptional service to authors, reviewers, and EBMs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about science and looking to launch a career in academic publishing. The position is full-time and based out of our Pune office, with a hybrid working arrangement.

Responsibilities

Assess manuscripts for compliance with journal policies and editorial thresholds, demonstrating scientific comprehension, critical scientific evaluation, and manuscript assessment skills to determine suitability for peer review. Identify and invite appropriate peer reviewers and manage the peer review process in a timely manner. Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts, applying sound judgement, in light of expert reviewer advice. Provide manuscript consultation and editorial support as required to Assistant Editors, Journal Owners and Editorial Board Members, demonstrating collaboration, interpersonal awareness, and effective communication. Identify manuscripts where there are difficulties in reaching an editorial decision and provide a resolution. Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support journal development, publishing workflows, operational improvements, and ad hoc projects. Experience, Skills and

Qualifications

PhD (or equivalent) research experience in Engineering. Strong scientific comprehension and critical evaluation skills, with the ability to assess research across a broad range of topics beyond one’s core area of expertise. Ability to work effectively within a cross-journal team, demonstrating collaboration, effective communication, interpersonal awareness, and a willingness to support shared objectives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate editorial decisions clearly and professionally. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high editorial, ethical, and quality standards. A genuine passion for scientific communication, academic writing, and promoting rigor and transparency in the reporting of research. Thorough understanding of the scientific research community, the peer review process, and the needs of researchers, reviewers, and editors. Sound judgement and strong decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze information critically and reach balanced, evidence-based conclusions. Highly self-motivated, resourceful, resilient, and achievement-oriented, with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical, problem-solving, workload management, and organizational skills, with a commitment to operational excellence. Interest in publishing and the ability to quickly learn and apply publishing workflows, systems, and editorial policies.
