Job Summary

The Director, Provider Compensation serves as the strategic leader responsible for the governance, oversight, and administration of physician and advanced practice provider compensation programs across the health system. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position provides leadership for physician compensation strategy, contract compensation administration, regulatory oversight, external compensation consulting relationships, and executive decision support. This role oversees the engagement and work product of external compensation consultants and fair market value firms, ensuring compensation arrangements remain aligned with organizational strategy, market practices, regulatory requirements, physician recruitment objectives, and financial goals. The Director collaborates with physician leaders, operational executives, finance, legal, compliance, recruitment, and human resources to translate market insights and consultant recommendations into compensation programs that support organizational performance and physician engagement. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field required. Minimum

Experience

Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare compensation, physician services, physician operations, provider recruitment, healthcare finance, physician contracting, or a related field required. Strong analytical background and comfort working with financial, operational, and quality data. Must be proficient in the use of spreadsheet, presentation graphics, and data base software with the ability to integrate elements as needed. Responsibilities

Compensation Governance and Oversight. Leads governance processes related to physician and advanced practice provider compensation. Reviews and evaluates compensation recommendations received from external consulting and valuation firms. Ensures organizational consistency in the interpretation and application of physician compensation plans. Develops and maintains compensation policies, guidelines, and governance standards. Supervise provider compensation analysts, set priorities, review work product, and promote staff development and cross-training. External Consultant Management. Serves as the primary organizational liaison with external physician compensation consultants and valuation firms. Coordinates market reviews, fair market value assessments, commercial reasonableness evaluations, and compensation plan reviews. Reviews consulting deliverables for accuracy, applicability, and alignment with organizational objectives. Makes recommendations to executive leadership based on consultant findings and organizational priorities. Strategic Advisory Services. Provides expert consultation to physician executives, operational leaders, and executive leadership regarding physician compensation strategy. Supports recruitment, retention, succession planning, acquisitions, and growth initiatives through compensation guidance. Participates in physician enterprise strategic planning activities. Evaluates emerging market trends and industry changes affecting physician compensation. Contract Compensation Administration. teams regarding compensation provisions in provider agreements. Supports implementation of compensation terms approved through organizational governance processes. Ensures compensation provisions are aligned with approved methodologies and consultant recommendations. Oversee compensation review and payment processes for non-employed providers, affiliated physician groups, and other physician enterprise engagements, including professional services agreements, hospital-based service arrangements, medical director agreements, administrative stipends, and other contracted provider relationships. Manage the review, validation, and operational processing of call pay arrangements for employed and non-employed physicians, ensuring alignment with approved terms, supporting documentation, and organizational policies. Provide oversight for compensation structures related to professional services agreements and other physician group engagements, including financial modeling, compensation term review, and implementation support. Regulatory and Compliance Oversight. Oversee the organization's processes for maintaining compliance with Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, Fair Market Value, and Commercial Reasonableness standards. Coordinates documentation and support for audits, regulatory reviews, and governance requirements. Maintains appropriate records of compensation reviews, approvals, and valuation support.
