Job Description: DIVISION: Academic UNIT: DiMenna-Nyselius Library BASIC FUNCTION: Supports a variety of Access Services and clerical procedures. Assists library patrons in the use of library materials, facilities, and equipment. Supervises and trains student employees. Manages Access Services operations in absence of Head of Access Services or Access Services & Reserves Specialist. UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Physical requirements: mobility; must be able to lift materials off shelf. Requires some evening and weekend hours. EDUCATION: Associate degree or equivalent required. ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE: One-year previous library or related experience. Demonstrated computer literacy. Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems. Supervisory and communication skills are required. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. EXEMPT: No SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: Assisting with the supervision of approximately 30 student assistants. REPORTS TO: Head of Access Services ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists with all Access Services operations. This includes: assisting with oversight of the main service point, with extensive service hours, of the library, supporting access services-related tools and technologies including the integrated library system and student information system, maintaining workflows for all aspects of Access Services operations, maintaining patron records, explaining and interpreting circulation policies to patrons, assessing and resolving problems and referring to other staff as appropriate, answering routine inquiries and referring patrons in need of professional assistance to librarians, assisting patrons with the use of printer, scanner, and computer hardware, assisting with the on-campus delivery of Library and interlibrary loan material, assisting with mailing of library resources to remote patrons, identifying books for repair or replacement, managing Access Services operations in absence of Head of Access Services or Access Services & Reserves Specialist. Assists with building access and facilities management. This includes: performing routine inspection of building for issues requiring work orders, opening or closing building as necessary, submitting work orders, communicating with Head of Access Services regarding building issues and maintenance, monitoring building security and providing the initial response to emergencies and issues related to building access and security. Supervises student employees. This includes: coaching, training and mentoring, as appropriate, overseeing the flow and quality of work, coordinating staffing schedules, assisting Head of Access Services to evaluate performance. Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/University needs indicate.
