Revenue Accountant @ Clay
Clay is in hypergrowth mode, and we're building the financial infrastructure to match. This is a foundational hire on the Accounting team and an opportunity to get in early, shape how we operate, and grow alongside the business.
We're looking for a Revenue Accountant who is excited to own revenue recognition, using next-gen accounting tooling to build the processes and ASC 606 conclusions in an evolving consumption-based pricing model. You'll be part of a modern, AI-forward accounting team where revenue keeps pace with Clay's growth.
What You'll Do
Revenue Accounting
- Support revenue recognition under ASC 606, with a strong focus on consumption-based models and new revenue streams as Clay's business evolves
- Prepare and maintain deferred and unbilled revenue schedules, ensuring accurate balance sheet presentation each period
- Prepare the deferred contract cost schedule (e.g. sales commissions), including amortization methodology and period determination
- Execute month-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analysis to support leadership reporting
Systems & Technical Accounting
- Document technical accounting positions (contract modifications, material rights, etc.) under ASC 606
- Contribute to revenue systems implementation and related process design as we scale our financial infrastructure, including mapping the chart of accounts and revenue rules to the new GL
- Support the company's first-year financial audit — preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requests
- Look for opportunities to apply AI and modern tooling to streamline revenue accounting and close workflows
What You'll Bring
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience with meaningful exposure to revenue accounting; Big Four or public accounting / audit experience a plus
- Active CPA required
- Solid knowledge of ASC 606 and US GAAP revenue principles, including consumption-based revenue models
- Data fluent, you are comfortable working with large datasets to diagnose revenue issues; SQL is a strong plus
- Excellent written communication, you are equally clear explaining a revenue position to an auditor or a business partner
- Proven track record of finding creative ways to automate and streamline processes, whether through a revenue system implementation, AI tooling, or workflow automation
Nice to Haves
- Experience at a high-growth startup
- Experience with a revenue and/or consumption metering tool implementation (e.g. Metronome, or similar)
- Experience with CPQ and CRM tools
- Hands-on experience applying AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) to automate processes or tasks
