Description of Work Reporting to the Correctional Programs Director, this position is responsible for providing and supervising programs for the rehabilitation of offenders at a medium-custody correctional facility. The primary programs areas are offender classification; correctional programs including educational/vocational, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation, and correctional counseling. Included: - Communicate effectively with other staff, offenders, and the general public whether verbally and/or written. - Defend oneself against attack by violent offenders and working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive. - Conduct continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area. - Demonstrate and instruct offenders in the proper safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies. - Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation. - Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. - Train, observe, evaluate, and supervise subordinate staff regarding their duties and responsibilities. - Account for supplies and equipment, developing, implementing, and managing Correctional Programs. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade Range: $39,244.00 - $68,679.00 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. About The Division of Institutions: The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
