Job Description: The English Department at Fairfield University invites applications for one full-time Visiting Assistant Professor to teach face-to-face in the Core Writing Program for the Fall 2026 semester only, starting September 1, 2026. Having recently completed revision of its Core, Fairfield University's exciting new writing curriculum requires students to complete four writing classes, including Introduction to Rhetoric and Composition (a hybrid of WAC and "Writing about Writing" approaches). This position carries a four course load in Core Writing. Successful candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching and will demonstrate thorough knowledge of the field. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Evidence of exemplary teaching of college composition courses is required. Understanding of contemporary best practices in the teaching of rhetoric and composition and Writing Across the Curriculum is a must. A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition is preferred. ABDs are also considered. To be considered, MA- and MFA-holding candidates must bring substantial experience in disciplinarily-grounded approaches to teaching first-year composition.
