Lead Software Engineer - Online Account Opening and Consumer Loan Origination
Job description
This role is four days onsite at our Seneca One Buffalo, NY location, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week Overview: Responsible at the expert level for writing code and the technical requirements gathering for a team supporting Digital Account Opening and Credit Card Application Customer Experiences. This role partners closely with business and product stakeholders to deliver enhancements that improve the customer experience, reduce funnel drop-off, automate processes, and ensure resilient digital experiences. Completes work following banking technology standards and contributes to the overall stability and resiliency of banking technology within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) while coaching and mentoring other team members. Responsibilities
Develop and coach other team members while also working independently on applications supporting customer account opening and credit card journeys within approved SDLC processes, including identification and recommendation of metrics to solve business needs and minimize risk through clean and resilient code. Lead technical execution for a Agile development team, providing mentorship, collaboration, and guidance on engineering best practices, solution design, and delivery priorities. Partner closely with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to prioritize a full scope of work, identify improvement opportunities, and deliver customer-focused enhancements. Review and approve designs, technical proposals, and pull requests while overseeing execution and change management activities. Design and promote peer review processes and coach team members on code quality, development standards, and continuous improvement. Author organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code at the expert level while guiding others on appropriate architectures, data structures, algorithms, and development patterns. Serve as a hands-on Full Stack Engineer with expertise in .NET and Angular technologies. Drive automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency, customer experience, and application reliability.
Experience
developing or maintaining automated testing solutions is a plus. Develop a deep understanding of the customer journey and customer impact, proactively identifying opportunities to improve online experiences, reduce application abandonment, and enhance conversion through the customer funnel. Investigate production incidents and customer-impacting issues, leveraging customer behavior and operational data to understand root causes and drive sustainable solutions. Contribute to fraud detection and prevention efforts by helping identify patterns that distinguish legitimate customer interactions from potentially scripted or automated fraudulent activity. Drive implementation adherence with performance, resiliency, observability, and optimization standards, including minimizing disruptions caused by downstream service dependencies. Review testing methodologies and code coverage to ensure comprehensive testing practices are followed across the team. Support modernization efforts and cloud migration initiatives where applicable. Review and approve requirement plans in alignment with delivery partners, ensuring completeness, accuracy, feasibility, and alignment to business priorities. Participate in an on-call support rotation, with approximately one week of coverage every six months, ensuring timely response to critical production issues. Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues requiring escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Experience
Required: Associate’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience or Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 year’s education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ system analysis and/or application development work experience. Expert proficiency in a minimum of 1 relevant programming language and professional proficiency in a minimum of 1 additional relevant programming language.
