NewsNation is seeking an experienced Director to lead the execution of live national news and opinion programming from our New York Bureau. The Director serves as the operational leader of the control room, bringing together editorial vision, technical execution, and production teams to deliver compelling, accurate, and visually engaging broadcasts. The ideal candidate thrives in breaking news environments, communicates clearly under pressure, and can confidently lead teams through complex live television productions while maintaining the highest standards of broadcast excellence. What You'll Do Direct live and pre-recorded broadcasts, ensuring smooth execution from show open through final segment. Partner with Executive Producers, Showrunners, and Producers to bring editorial vision to air. Lead control room, studio, and production teams, including Associate Directors, Audio Operators, Floor Directors, stage crews, and on-air talent. Execute breaking news coverage while managing changing priorities, timing adjustments, and evolving editorial needs. Collaborate with newsroom, graphics, and creative services teams to maximize visual storytelling and production value. Ensure clear communication and coordination across all broadcast stakeholders before, during, and after live productions. Troubleshoot operational and technical challenges in real time while maintaining a calm, professional control room environment. Collaborate with teams across New York, Chicago, and Washington, DC to support network-wide broadcasts and special event coverage. What Success Looks Like Broadcasts are executed cleanly, accurately, and on time. Production teams operate efficiently and remain aligned throughout fast-moving live events. Breaking news coverage is handled with confidence, flexibility, and strong editorial judgment. Technical and operational challenges are resolved quickly with minimal impact to the viewer experience. The control room functions as a collaborative, focused environment where teams can perform at their best.

Qualifications

5+ years of live television directing experience in a network, cable, or major-market broadcast environment. Strong understanding of control room operations, live news workflows, and broadcast production technology.

Experience

partnering with producers, technical teams, and on-air talent in fast-paced live production environments. Familiarity with newsroom computer systems such as ENPS, iNews, or similar platforms preferred. Demonstrated ability to make quick decisions and lead teams during breaking news and high-pressure situations. Exceptional communication, organizational, and multitasking skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during major news events. DGA membership in good standing required. Compensation: $85.00 - $100.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
