Responsibilities
Pick up Surgical and Cytology specimens from different areas of the Hospital numerous times during the day. Requires significant walking. Documents specimen problems as directed and according to policy Register and accession all surgical and cytology specimens. Responsible for calling doctors’ offices, floors and other departments to obtain or correct patient/specimen information. Prepare, stain and cover slip GYN and NGYN Cytology and occasional frozen section specimens. Maintenance of Thin Prep Processor, centrifuge, stainer, coverslipper and imaging equipment. Responsible for monitoring supply levels and record keeping. Disposal of hazardous chemicals. Assist in histology lab activities such as pulling slides off stainers, handing out slides, and other basic functions. Provides assistance in Quality Assurance Program. Accurate filing slides and blocks as needed. Participates in workflow improvements Maintain clean laboratory space as directed and according to policy. Maintain readiness of Fine Needle Aspiration cart Prepare specimens for any required send out testing. Training of new employees. Organize supplies and reagents. And all other related duties. Experience
Required: Successful completion of Medical Terminology test. Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of anatomy. Working knowledge of Histology/Pathology Lab strongly preferred. Successful completion of pathology test. Written and verbal English skills at 12th grade level Ability to perform mathematics at 12th grade level
Pay Range
$19.90 - $34.81 This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
