Job Summary

This is a developmental opportunity for active-duty military personnel who will be separating from the military in the next 3-6 months. The SkillBridge Internship Program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience in the civilian sector to SkillBridge applicants. SkillBridge is a Department of Defense (DOD) program that matches civilian opportunities to a military member’s job training and work experience at the end of their military duty. Applicant must be eligible for the DOD SkillBridge program, as defined here: https://skillbridge.osd.mil/index.htm The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is now placing SkillBridge Interns in the following departments/units: *Spokane County Emergency Management (for those interested in emergency management/disaster relief positions) *Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Fleet Services Division (for those interested in automotive mechanic positions) * If no preference is specified, Human Resources will assist in determining the best placement. This position will be housed in the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office [herein referred to as Agency] and incumbents will perform and take responsibility for various technical and/or clerical duties, using various computer programs and/or operating technical equipment. Incumbents will also perform general responsibilities inherent to properly maintaining the office of the division where assigned, including handling receptionist duties, including multi-line phones and direct contact with the general public. Incumbents engage in various work assignments, projects, and activities of varying complexity, structured so the participant has an opportunity to apply principles and theories, explore a career path and gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform at a professional level. Participants receive training, supervision, and mentorship from a position housed within the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Incumbents may take part in professional development opportunities via conferences, seminars, online events, and other means, as necessary. Positions in this classification will assist clerical support personnel in an office and will be trained to relieve technical and/or administrative superiors of routine office or technical responsibilities. Positions in this classification may work as part of a team; incumbents must have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. Duties

Provides entry-level to intermediate-level professional administrative services, under supervision of professional staff and/or a supervisor, as appropriate to the day-to-day operating objectives of the Agency, which includes, but is not limited to, the duties listed below. Undertakes and/or participates in projects and programs designed to develop professional skills and expertise, appropriate to the needs of the Agency. Assists with and participates in the planning and implementation of Agency projects and initiatives. Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from professional personnel in planning and carrying out activities and assignments. As appropriate to the position and as specified by Agency management, conducts original research and prepares reports based on findings, to include recommendations or alternative proposals for action. May undertake related studies or enrichment programs as appropriate to the specific objectives of the operating unit. Maintains confidentiality of all information in Sheriff’s Office records and files. Creates, updates, and assists with maintenance of all specialized records and files. Answers multi-line phones; handles public inquires; perform duties as receptionist, handling telephone and counter work as needed. Drafts reports as requested. Orders and maintains supplies; inventories other items as needed. Use various computer programs; records, searches, prints, corrects, and assists with designing spreadsheets and programs; creates new forms and/or files as needed. Collects and routes employee/office incoming mail; processes outgoing mail. Assist with planning, coordination, and logistics for meetings and other events. Help with responding to written, electronic, and telephone inquiries from internal and external customers, and either direct inquiries to the appropriate personnel or provide proper resolution to inquiries. May assist with maintenance of computer-based administrative records, training records, and instructional records. Assist Agency personnel with the implementation and maintenance of new software programs for training and records. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum

Requirements

Must be eligible for DOD SkillBridge program as defined here: DoW Skillbridge No previous work experience is required. Must successfully pass a criminal background check. Selection Factors: Six (6) months of experience using Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
