[What you will be working on] We are looking for an experienced and hands-on professional to join our FabLab team. In this role, you will develop and deliver applied learning in digital fabrication, electronics, programming and maker education, while supporting the safe, reliable and effective operation of SP FabLab. You will help students and partners translate ideas into functional prototypes through design, making, testing and iteration.

Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Learner Development Plan and deliver engaging lessons, laboratory sessions and workshops in digital fabrication, programming, electronics and maker education. Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, supervise student projects, assess learning outcomes, and provide timely feedback to support learners' technical development and success. 2. Curriculum and Learning Resource Development Develop and enhance project-based curricula, lesson materials, assessments and learning resources that incorporate digital fabrication technologies, coding, electronics, design thinking and emerging technologies such as AI. Ensure that content remains current, industry-relevant and aligned with learner needs. 3. FabLab Operations, Technical Support and Safety Management Support the day-to-day operation of the FabLab by maintaining fabrication equipment, electronics prototyping tools and related software. Develop and implement safety procedures, conduct training, troubleshoot technical issues and support equipment maintenance to ensure a safe, reliable and effective learning environment. 4. Applied Projects, Industry Partnerships and Outreach Collaborate with industry, schools and community partners on applied projects and consultancy initiatives. Support prototype development, facilitate innovation projects, and contribute to outreach programmes, showcases and professional engagements that strengthen the impact and visibility of the FabLab. Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Digital Fabrication, Industrial/Product Design, or a closely related discipline. At least 5 years of relevant industry, applied project and/or teaching experience, including experience in a tertiary, adult-learning or comparable technical learning environment. Hands-on experience across the design-to-fabrication workflow, including CAD/CAM and digital fabrication technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, electronics prototyping or related processes. Proficiency in programming and electronics prototyping using platforms such as Arduino, micro:bit, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi, together with programming languages such as Python or C/C++. Ability to design and deliver project-based, studio or laboratory learning, including the development of lesson plans, assessments and learning resources. Strong knowledge of workshop or laboratory safety practices, risk assessment, SOP development, equipment maintenance and technical troubleshooting. Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Preferred

Requirements

Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline. Knowledge or experience in product design, industrial design, design thinking, user-centred design or product prototyping. A portfolio demonstrating completed prototypes, applied projects, teaching innovations or related work. Teaching or facilitation qualifications such as ACTA, ACLP or equivalent. Relevant industry certifications, consultancy experience, or active participation in maker, fabrication or innovation communities. Candidates should be prepared to present a technical portfolio and may be required to complete a teaching demonstration and/or practical technical assessment as part of the selection process. Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
