UR - Day (United States of America) Range: UR URG 113 Compensation Range: $77,600.00 - $116,400.00 The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities

The Department of Surgery seeks a Bioinformatics Analyst II to provide biostatistical and methodological support to surgery faculty conducting clinical, translational, and health services research. This position functions as a shared departmental resource, collaborating with investigators across divisions to strengthen study design, analytic rigor, grant competitiveness, and scholarly dissemination. This role is within the Department of Surgery and supports multiple divisions. The position provides opportunities for scholarly collaboration, co-authorship, and professional development within an academic medical center. The Bioinformatics Analyst II contributes to scholary output and strengthens the biostatistics aspects of research to improve competitiveness of grants and manuscripts. They may participate in additional professional development activities to support their growth. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Advanced BIOSTATISTICS CONSULTING PRE-AWARD Provide biostatistical consultation prior to grant submissions for study design, analysis, and interpretation. Complex Statistical ANALYSIS FOR GRANTS AND MANUSCRIPTS Conduct statistical analyses using appropriate and reproducible methods. Advise on data structure, data quality, missing data, and analytic assumptions GRANT DEVELOPMENT and Strategic research SUPPORT Support grant development (e.g., NIH, society, foundation, industry), including power/sample size calculations and statistical methods sections MANUSCRIPT DEVELOPMENT AND REPORTING Contribute to manuscripts, including statistical methods, results, tables, and figures; participate as a co-author when appropriate. Ensure compliance with institutional, regulatory, and reporting standards. COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION: Work closely with research teams to translate biological questions into computational solutions. Present technical progress and challenges clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. TRAINING AND ADMINSTRATIVE DUTIES Provide statistical guidance to trainees and faculty. Work with the surgery research office to update regarding ongoing activities and future biostatistical needs MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree required Master’s or Advanced Degree (PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline) preferred 3 years of relevant experience required

Experience

working in an academic medical center and with NIH-funded research preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Experience

with Azure/AWS or other cloud platform development/deployment

Experience

with statistical programming and data visualization using R/Bioconductor and UNIX/Linux programming

Experience

with interface, networking, and data warehousing technologies, as well as design, relational database technologies, and performance tuning Proven track record executing multiple work streams and producing consistent results Able to create novel techniques, programs and systems by innovation or by extracting/synthesizing features or elements from other systems, databases and/or programs at all phases inception, design, testing, implementation, evaluation and future progression and development Ability to create a cascade of interrelated experiments, programs and/or systems that execute, analyze and construct upon the previous and in scientific succession Competency with Python, JAVA, Perl, C++, and Cloud computing PREFERRED Expert knowledge of statistical methods to translate complex data into actionable insights Ability to work independently using professional judgement in selecting statistical methods Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset

Experience
