Overview Works under the supervision of the ED Nurse Manager and the Clinical Director and is responsible for the flow of patients in and out of the department. Acts as an adjunct to the manager when ED leadership is not present. Communicates and coordinates patient flow in conjunction with the ED charge nurses, providers, and inpatient charge nurses and nurse leaders. The individual must demonstrate the ability to assess and interpret data as it relates to patient care and the flow of the department. Must have the ability to multitask, delegate and prioritize the needs of the department. Additionally, for the employee group that they supervise is responsible for the quality of work, productivity of the group, morale, employee adherence to polices and procedures and operational expenses. Must have the ability to establish working relationships with the providers and other members of the healthcare team throughout the organization. May also assist with educating team members in standards of care and changes in policy. What you will do Handles conflict and resolves issues with team members, providers, patients and families. Works well with other departments and leaders to coordinate patient throuhput Demonstrates the ability to critically think and makes sound decisions in stressful situations. Monitor/supports personal departmental productivity measurements through volunteering for and recommending creative changes to include flexing and shift changes to meet needs of the department. Supports austerity by reducing supply cost by retarding waste, and by utilizing in staffing practices. Demonstrates and maintains professional relationship with medical staff. Uses professional title in the workplace. Demonstrates and responds in reporting policy, regulatory variances, and follow through to resolution via the quality management system. Builds credibility with provider team as a champion for patient care, quality, and professional practice. Collaborates with providers to facilitate patient throughput. Appropriately responds to and addresses provider issues/concerns related to patient throughput Demonstrates the ability to establish an environment of safety and assure safe practices for the patient as evidenced by recognizing and implementing National Patient Safety Goals and following policies and procedures and complying with regulatory regulations.
