Maintenance Technician III (MT III) Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician III is a multi‑skilled technician responsible for troubleshooting complex automation issues, supporting reliability improvements, and assisting during major downtime events. This role supports complex repairs, helps implement engineering changes, provides support to other technicians, and partners with cross‑functional teams to improve system performance, safety, and equipment uptime. RESPONSIBILITIES · Diagnose and repair automation line failures, including controls faults, sensor or encoder issues, device network problems, drive faults, and system performance concerns. · Perform advanced troubleshooting using electrical prints, device manuals, fault histories, trending, and structured methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone, fault tree). · Support PLC/HMI level triage (alarm interpretation, I/O checks, verifying interlocks). (Programming changes only if authorized/qualified; otherwise partner with PLC Engineer.) · Coordinate response for major downtime events: isolate hazards, assist troubleshooting, assign tasks, validate restoration, and document corrective actions. · Assist with reliability improvements: recurring defect elimination, critical spare strategies, component standardization, and post-incident reviews. · Collaborate with Engineering/Operations on safety improvements, new equipment commissioning support, and acceptance testing. · Champion safety culture: ensure proper LOTO, job hazard analysis, and high-risk work controls. QUALIFICATIONS · High school diploma or GED. · 4-5 years industrial maintenance experience with automation (or equivalent demonstrated mastery). · Strong mechanical troubleshooting expertise; proven ability to read and interpret complex schematics and equipment manuals. · Ability to lead technical work under time pressure and coordinate across teams. · Working knowledge of CMMS & VFDs. Physical & Work Environment · Stand/walk for extended periods; climb ladders/stairs; work at heights; lift to ~50 lbs. with/without reasonable accommodation; flexibility to work OT as needed & weekends if necessary; work around moving equipment, noise, and varying temperatures. Frequent work in elevated/guarded areas and greater exposure to complex energized systems (as permitted by site safety policy). Hiring Range: $30.80 USD - $38.50 USD per hour Incentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
