This position reports to: Digital Solution Engineering Manager __ We are seeking a motivated recent graduate or final-year student in scientific disciplines to join our team as an Industrial Plant Simulation Intern. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge simulation and optimization projects for industrial plants, focusing on Power Generation and Steam Networks, using ABB's advanced control systems (800xA, Symphony Plus) and optimization tools (OPTIMAX). The intern will gain hands-on experience in plant modeling using Modelica, process simulation, and control system integration, working alongside experienced engineers on real-world industrial projects. Your role and responsibilities Support the development and validation of dynamic plant models using Modelica language for power generation plants and steam networks. Create simulation models for boilers, turbines, heat recovery systems, and auxiliary equipment. Implement thermodynamic and fluid dynamic models for steam distribution networks. Validate models against real plant data and performance specifications. Support simulation projects using ABB 800xA simulator and Symphony Plus Harmony Training Simulator (HTS). Configure simulation environments to create platforms for testing 800xA and S+ Harmony control logic. Interface plant models with DCS simulators for operator training and control logic verification. Collaborate on optimization projects using ABB OPTIMAX technology. Develop optimization models for steam and power systems. Analyze plant performance data to identify optimization opportunities. Support implementation of Model Predictive Control (MPC) strategies. On-the-job training on ABB control systems and simulation tools. Stay updated on latest technologies in process simulation and control. Collaborate with multidisciplinary and international teams (control and process engineers, simulation experts, project managers) Contribute to development of real projects interfacing Customers and Subsuppliers The work model for the role is: hybrid This role is contributing to the Process Automation Energy Industries in Central-South Europe region.
Qualifications

Education
Master's degree (completed or final year) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Process and Industrial Engineering, Physics or Applied Mathematics. Technical Skills: knowledge of Windows O.S. and Linux. Knowledge of process simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, or similar) is a plus. Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools is a plus. Basic programming skills (Python, MATLAB, or similar) is a plus. Knowledge of OPC protocol and fieldbus communications is a plus. Languages: Ability to communicate fluently in both Italian and English. Soft Skills: A proactive with an excellent attention to detail and accuracy mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
