POSITION TITLE: Senior Student Assistant Specialist SJDC Galleries The Sheila C. Johnson Design Center (SJDC) galleries at Parsons/The New School are looking for a Senior Student Assistant Specialist to help with exhibition planning and installation across our two campus galleries. Reporting to the Assistant Director, this role includes hands-on support with layout, installation, and preparing all gallery text and print materials. The work involves using special printers and professional grade paper, and may include decisions about how the gallery space is used for artwork. We’re looking for someone who has experience or coursework in art installation, curating, or gallery work and who can work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. RESPONSIBILITIES Help plan exhibition layouts alongside the Assistant Director. Support decisions about artwork placement and how the space flows. Install artworks using safe and proper handling methods. Use specialized printers and paper to prepare wall labels, text, and printed materials. Assist with mounting and installing all printed items in the gallery. Help with production, fabrication, and overall install process. Provide support with schedules, logistics, and general gallery needs during install. Take on other duties related to exhibitions as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
working in galleries or with exhibition installation. Able to use hand tools (like drills, levels, saws, etc.) safely. Comfortable making layout and setup decisions independently. Knows how to format and print professional materials for gallery use. Able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends during installs. Works well both alone and with a team. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
or coursework in art installation, curating, or gallery operations. Confidence using tools, ladders, and handling delicate artworks. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Interest in exhibitions, design, and how shows come together.
