Job Description: About the Team: The Legal department has deep expertise across the core practice areas relevant to a global media and information company, including commercial agreements, privacy, intellectual property, employment, litigation, compliance, corporate governance, M&A, and media law. The team partners closely with business leaders across Dow Jones to provide practical, commercially focused advice that supports growth, manages risk, and enables sound decision-making. About the Role Dow Jones is seeking a Legal Counsel based in New York City to focus on litigation and support a broad range of legal and commercial matters across our businesses and corporate functions, including our growing B2B business lines. This role will provide timely, practical, and solution-oriented legal advice on litigation (actual or threatened) of all sorts, including subpoenas, and day-to-day business issues, strategic initiatives, and risk management. The successful candidate will be a trusted partner to internal stakeholders and will work closely with colleagues across Legal and the broader organization and with outside counsel. This role will report to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel, who sits in New York City. This is a hybrid role, with three (3) days per week required in our midtown Manhattan headquarters. You Will: Provide legal advice and support on litigation (actual or threatened) on various subjects (e.g., commercial disputes, consumer claims, data privacy, antitrust) in a variety of forums in the U.S. and abroad (courts, regulatory bodies, arbitrations, mediations). Collaborate closely with internal colleagues and outside counsel (where engaged) on litigation, including reviewing and drafting filings and managing responses to discovery requests, subpoenas, etc. Provide legal advice and support on a broad range of business matters, including commercial, operational, and strategic initiatives. Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including confidentiality agreements, settlements, and other commercial contracts. Collaborate with subject matter experts across the Legal team, including colleagues focused on privacy, intellectual property, media, antitrust, employment, compliance, litigation, and corporate matters, as needed. Partner with business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to identify legal and business risks and develop practical solutions. Advise on legal implications of new initiatives, products, partnerships, and ways of working. Support internal clients on policy interpretation, process improvement, and issue resolution in a manner that is commercially pragmatic and aligned to company objectives. Help maintain and improve legal templates, playbooks, and training materials to drive consistency and efficiency. Maintain disciplined matter-management practices, including trackers, litigation reports, status updates, budgets, and clear communications to Legal leadership and relevant business stakeholders. Participate in business-driven and department-led projects, including those that may be cross-functional, regional, or global in scope. Stay current on legal and regulatory developments relevant to Dow Jones and the legal profession, including evolving issues in technology, AI, privacy, and other key subject matters, and supporting responsible legal-process improvement and technology adoption. You Have: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Currently admitted to the New York bar as an active member in good standing or qualified to register as in-house counsel in accordance with New York rules. 5–7 years of relevant legal experience, with strong experience in litigation work; in-house experience is a plus. Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and managing a wide range of litigation documents.

Experience

Strong understanding of litigation and a broad ability to spot and assess legal issues across business contexts. Excellent research and communication skills (written and oral), with strong judgment and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and exercise sound judgment in setting priorities. A high degree of initiative, accountability, and self-motivation, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build credibility with stakeholders across functions and levels of seniority. Pay Range
