The University Learning Center (ULC) is dedicated to providing academic support to The New School’s diverse student population through one-on-one tutoring sessions, workshops, and more. Tutors help students become stronger and more independent learners, so that they succeed in achieving their academic goals.
Job Responsibilities
Tutor undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of math and economics subjects, including Quantitative Reasoning, Statistics, R, Tableau, SPSS, Economics, Accounting, Excel, Math Merchandising, Math Tools, and Calculus. Work with students of varying skill levels from demonstrating the basics to assisting with complex problems and a range of issues in between. Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences. Complete administrative tasks, such as writing brief descriptions of each session and emailing a brief summary of daily attendance. Other opportunities include leading in-class workshops and/or specialized ULC workshops. Minimum
Qualifications
Tutors must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at the university and have at least one year of tutoring experience or teaching math/economics in a formal academic setting. Candidates must have taken Algebra, Pre-Calculus and Calculus, and Statistics. Potential tutors must have earned a grade of B+ or higher in the above mentioned mathematics courses relevant to the subject they will be tutoring. Prior tutoring or teaching experience is preferred. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher Excellent communication skills Demonstrated reliability and punctuality Able to commit to 6 (or more) tutoring hours per week
