Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: IBBR is a joint research enterprise of the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. IBBR leverages state-of-art integrative methods for bioanalytical, biophysical and structural characterization of biomolecules: cryo-electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, x-ray crystallography, small angle neutron and x-ray scattering and mass spectrometry. IBBR researchers seek to advance therapeutic development, biomanufacturing, and state-of-the-art measurement technologies, to support accelerated delivery of safe and effective medicines to the public. IBBR is a major initiative and supported in part by the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower), an initiative designed to achieve innovation and impact through collaboration. Job Description Summary: The Post-Doctoral Associate will work on developing advanced multifunctional polymers for cutting edge life sciences and high-tech engineering applications. This involves synthesis and characterization of hybrid organic-inorganic macromolecules for use in self-assembling nano-scale systems and stimuli responsive materials. The resultant polymer structures and biomaterials are typically characterized by advanced suite of analytical techniques, such as NMR, SEC, AF4, DLS, MALS, ITC and, in some cases, may be directly visualized by cryogenic electron microscopy. The successful applicant will conduct research in a collaborative environment of large industry and NIH funded projects in a multidisciplinary laboratory team. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in polymer sciences, chemical engineering or related field. Hands-on experience in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of synthetic polymers, Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute in a multidisciplinary team setting. Excellent oral and written communication skills required, as is the ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Physical Demands: Able to perform conventional research tasks in the synthetic laboratory.
