Job description

Purpose. Performance. People. Joining CPP Investments means joining one of the world’s most admired and respected institutional investors to drive a single mandate: to deliver strong, sustainable returns for generations of Canadians. With a long-term horizon and global reach, we deploy capital at scale across public and private markets. Our size, stability, and disciplined investment philosophy allow us to pursue complex opportunities and build enduring partnerships worldwide. For our people, this means meaningful work with tangible impact, real opportunity, and collaboration with exceptional colleagues who value partnership and performance. Here, you’ll contribute to outcomes that matter alongside team members committed to excellence and shared success. The Role We are currently recruiting for a Senior Associate to join the Total Portfolio Rebalancing & Modelling team within PDRE in TFM for a 12-month contract. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of research to support portfolio management and execution activities. She/he will work closely with teams in PDRE and across TFM to ensure effective implementation of the Balancing process. The Total Fund Management department (“TFM”) is responsible for the successful implementation of the Fund’s investment framework. These activities are focused on designing and delivering the Strategic Portfolio, our long-term vision for the intended investment portfolio five or more years into the future. TFM works with the active Investment Departments to effectively characterize and allocate to active investment strategies, with the aim of achieving the Strategic Portfolio over time. TFM also works on the total Fund daily investment cycle, including all the processes, systems, and data needed to structure the investment portfolio in response to the on-going flow of cash and exposures into and out of the Fund. TFM consists of five groups: Beta, Collateral & Liquidity Management; Dynamic Portfolio Management; Portfolio Design, Research & Engineering; Strategy & Business Management; and Trading. The Portfolio Design, Research and Engineering group (“PDRE”) is responsible for recommending the Fund’s risk appetite and portfolio allocations across key investment horizons. As the Fund’s centre for top-down investment research, PDRE combines rigorous analysis with practical portfolio design to inform strategic and tactical investment decisions. PDRE develops sophisticated research, models and portfolio analytics spanning factor investing, portfolio characterization, quantitative modelling, scenario analysis, portfolio construction and asset allocation for the active and balancing programs. In addition, the group builds the investment platforms, analytical tools and core engineering capabilities that underpin systematic, quantitative and fundamental research across TFM and partner departments, enabling consistent, data-driven investment decisions throughout the organization. The Team Accountabilities: Participate in research and analysis on portfolio management, including the development and enhancement of existing models and approaches. Work with team members to help implement and test approved models. Prepare and present research reports and methodology recommendation documents to TFM’s Research and Investment Committees. Contribute to research culture by providing constructive feedback on others’ research projects, and seeking out constructive feedback from others on your own work. Collaborate with other teams and contribute to other departmental projects as required. Qualifications: Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative field preferred. 5+ years of relevant work experience in financial services industry, preferably in a quantitative research capacity. Strong critical thinking, analytical and research skills. Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab, R) and experience in data analysis techniques and statistical empirical methods. Self-motivated, organized, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and new challenges. Strong interpersonal skills with solid verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in teams, while also being self-motivated and able to work independently. Successful candidates must exemplify CPP Investments’ guiding principles of high performance, integrity, and partnership. You are motivated to contribute to something larger than yourself, approach complex challenges with rigor, and hold yourself to high standards in a collaborative, performance-driven environment. We provide colleagues with cutting-edge AI tools, dedicated learning time, and practical support to help them deliver with greater impact.
