Job Summary

The Health & Safety Services Technician performs a variety of tasks in order to assist the team of doctors, physician assistants, nurses and surgical technologists in the Center. This includes timely and efficient turnover of the ORs, assisting the team in positioning of the patient, preparedness of patient supplies and positioning devices as requested, re-stocking of all areas, and equipment maintenance. The Health & Safety Services Tech operates under the supervision of the circulating nurse, with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision and to organize work in order of importance.

Environmental Demands: Indoor area with frequent exposure to dust, fumes, temperature, fluids, cleaning related chemicals, moisture and noise. Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials. 2. Essential Physical and Cognitive Demands, Manual Dexterity: Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs) B. MISSION/STRATEGIC PLAN: Participates in activities which support the mission of the hospital C. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: *Demonstrates the required job specific technical professional knowledge, skills and abilities. 1. Assists the surgical team by carrying out support activities, which include but are not limited to: A. Provides support to the multidisciplinary health care team to maintain and promote the standards of are and safety. B. Provides assistance to the surgical team with positioning and transportation of patients. C. Has knowledge of operating room set-ups for various surgical procedures. D. Maintains supplies at all times, including clean linen. E. Performs daily clinical and ancillary area cleaning including OR room turnover and end of day OR terminal cleaning per ASC standards. Ensures daily cleaning of Neptune machines. F. Recognizes when equipment needs repair and follows up with appropriate personnel or department. G. Cleans any equipment, used in patient rooms and ancillary areas to ensure customer service quality standards are achieved and maintained by the ASC. H. Makes sure housekeeping closets, cart and equipment are clean and orderly on a daily basis. I. Performs daily clinical and ancillary cleaning of pre-operative and pacu areas. Inclusive of bay cleaning, stretcher cleaning and turnover, creation of patient belonging bags. J. Maintains compliance logs for refrigerator, Neptune machines, ice machine cleaning schedule, temperature and humidities of operating rooms. K. Conducts inventory of linens and communicates with vendor on needs with coordination of leadership. L. Collect, transport, and dispose of regular waste, recycling, and regulated medical waste according to policy. ensure proper handling of biohazard materials 2. Utilizes/mixes cleaning chemicals in a cost effective and safe manner; closely follows all instructions and safety specifications regarding cleaning chemicals; makes sure all bottled chemicals are labeled, on a daily basis. 3. Maintains adequate supplies of paper products, hand soap, sanitary napkins, sharps containers, clean linens, cleaning supplies etc. on a daily basis. Removes and replaces all full sharps. May be authorized to access secured medication storage locations to perform job related functions. Checks expiration of all paper supplies, hand soap, cleaning supplies and hand sanitizers of entire ASC. 4. Carries out materials acquisition, equipment and specimen transport as needed. 5. Assists with patient positioning intraoperatively, and patient transport as needed. 6. Provides a positive customer service minded environment by stressing, through example, teamwork, personal enthusiasm, pride in work, and a positive efficient work attitude. Communicates daily with manager to ensure information is exchanged, any concerns are resolved and customer service standards are achieved and maintained. 7. Observes and reports any equipment, furniture, fixtures, carpet, curtains, and walls in need of repair, on a daily basis. 8. Adheres to all ASC standards, policies, and procedures. Participates in Department/Hospital-wide activities which improve processes and/or outcomes. 2. Utilizes resources to maintain and improve self-development and knowledge. 3. Complies with licensure and/or certification requirements. 4. Participates in annual competency assessment. C. BUDGET: 1. Demonstrates fiscally prudent use of equipment and supplies. 2. Utilizes charge process for supplies/equipment. D. PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS: 1. Participates in committees and task forces as requested. 2. Performs other duties as assigned within classification. 3. Assists with the orientation process for new hires.

Qualifications

High School Required or GED Required Prior work experience in an Ambulatory Surgical Center strongly preferred, performing similar duties. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills. Requires ability to perform lifting and transport of patients; and lifting of instrument trays and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations and in a variety of surgical environments.
