POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW The Performance Operations area at The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking highly qualified Overhire Large Ensemble Ringers to join its team. Reporting to the Large Ensemble Manager, the Overhire Large Ensemble Ringer supports initiatives within the Performance Operations - Large Ensembles area on an as-needed basis. This includes Mannes Orchestra, Mannes American Composers Ensemble, Mannes Opera Orchestra, and other ensembles. This position reports to the Manager of Large Ensembles. Alumni of the College of Performing Arts are strongly encouraged to apply. Formed in 2015, the College of Performing Arts draws together the Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama. College of Performing Arts students are actors, musicians, performers, writers, improvisers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs, composers, arts managers, and multidisciplinary artists. Our community collaborates with colleagues across The New School in a wide array of disciplines, from the visual arts and fashion design, to the social sciences, public policy, advocacy, and more. This is an overhire position without regular or guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities for work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Large Ensemble department. This position may be renewed pending institutional need and availability of funding. CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES Attend all the rehearsals and performances as scheduled with the assigned ensemble Bring one’s own instrument(s) and gear as needed Analyze assigned music prior to rehearsal and performances (e.g., correct tempos, challenging transitions, dynamics) to ensure efficient use of rehearsal time Exhibit professionalism in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and audience members Be prepared to play professionally with one’s assigned part Adhere to departmental guidelines regarding reporting hours, payroll deadlines, and other items including attire. QUALIFICATIONS Classically trained musician Ability to play all assigned instruments, including auxiliaries Prior orchestral/large ensemble experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Familiarity with contemporary and non-traditional scores, including opera. Alumni of the College of Performing Arts WORK MODE This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. #LI-Onsite Hours per Week: Up to 15 hours per week, per cycle, variable commitment with no guaranteed hours. Rehearsals are typically on weekdays 1 pm to 3:50 pm, with some nights and/ or weekends as needed. SALARY RANGE Hourly Rate: $55.00/hour Rehearsals (Up to 3 hours): $165.00 per service Dress Rehearsals (Up to 4 hours): $220.00 per service Concerts (Up to 4 hours): $220.00 per service Any work above minimum call is paid at $55.00/hour WHY JOIN US?
