A Day in the Life Supports manufacturing equipment reliability, uptime, and continuous improvement through troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, calibration, equipment modifications, and retrofit execution. Works collaboratively with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Production to implement safe and effective technical solutions in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
may include the following, and other duties may be assigned: Performs technical duties involving mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and optical systems. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains manufacturing equipment, components, devices, and systems. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and minimize production downtime. Reads and interprets mechanical drawings, electrical and pneumatic schematics, blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical specifications. Uses precision measurement tools and applies knowledge of dimensional tolerances and GD&T when inspecting, aligning, or adjusting equipment components. Performs equipment calibration, alignment, verification, and functional testing according to approved procedures and specifications. Makes equipment adjustments, component replacements, modifications, and retrofits as directed. Supports mechanical and pneumatic retrofit projects, equipment upgrades, fixture improvements, and system modifications. Works with machine controls, PLC-controlled equipment, sensors, actuators, and basic automation systems during troubleshooting activities. Conducts equipment testing, analyzes downtime and recurring failures, and accurately documents findings and maintenance activities. Supports root-cause investigations and implements corrective actions to prevent equipment failure recurrence. Supports equipment and process improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, reliability, productivity, and maintainability. Assists with tooling selection, fixture setup, equipment changeovers, and process optimization. Creates or updates work instructions, preventive maintenance procedures, setup instructions, and troubleshooting guides. Applies lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement principles to identify waste, eliminate recurring equipment losses, and improve operational performance. Supports the planning and execution of equipment maintenance, retrofit, and continuous-improvement projects. Partners with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams to resolve equipment-related issues and maintain manufacturing continuity. Provides technical guidance or hands-on training to operators and junior technicians when required. Adapts to changing production priorities and responds appropriately to urgent equipment-support needs. Performs all activities in compliance with safety requirements, quality-system procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures, and performs detailed mathematical calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes. DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS Autonomy: Trains, delegates and reviews the work of lower level employees and may be responsible for leading daily operations of a work team. Runs projects, including performing complex tests, interpreting data, developing key reports and providing updates to the broader team. Organizational Impact: Performs technical activities more complex in nature with larger impact. Work consists of technical tasks that are complex and complicated.
