Cadets will receive structured training, mentorship, and practical experience in campus policing while developing the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies necessary to become successful Texas Peace Officers. The program serves as a career pathway to the position of Police Officer (In Training) and supports the department's commitment to professionalism, community engagement, and public safety. This Evergreen position will be used to hire multiple candidates for this role.
Responsibilities
Successfully complete the assigned Police Academy program while demonstrating professionalism, discipline, integrity, and compliance with all Academy rules and regulations. Complete departmental training assignments and professional development activities. Observe police investigations and operational procedures for educational purposes. Participate in emergency preparedness training and exercises. Performs other duties as assigned. Required

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of full-time experience. Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses: Upon employment, applicant must complete the basic police academy and pass the required State of Texas police licensing exam. Must have a State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Military service with an honorable discharge. Previous experience in public safety, security, customer service, or emergency response. Other

Must be in excellent physical health and stamina. Must be 21 years of age at time of employment. All system university police recruits will be required to meet minimum licensing standard requirements as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) § 217.1. Applicant must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment. Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history. Requirements
Must successfully complete a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)-approved Basic Peace Officer Academy. Upon successful completion of the academy and all departmental requirements, will be appointed to the position of Police Officer I. Must commit to a minimum of two (2) years of service following appointment as a Police Officer I. Employees who separate from employment before fulfilling the required two-year commitment may be subject to repayment of academy-related costs and other training expenses, as outlined in any applicable training reimbursement agreement.
