Provides leadership and direction to assigned staff in planning, development, coordination, and delivery of their respective programs to meet needs of students and goals of department. The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities
Manages all aspects of the University scholarship program. Promotes the PVAMU scholarship program in order to increase the number of scholarships awarded. Develop and maintain marketing literature to promote awareness of scholarship opportunities for students. Works with the advising staff on assisting students in the completion of the scholarship application process. Serves as the liaison between the faculty/staff, students and the public to provided information and resources regarding scholarship activities and programs. Monitors and provides updates to the student body regarding new scholarship opportunities. Determines or verifies scholarship eligibility. Reviews the importing and exporting of scholarship application records via the financial aid delivery system and Awards Management (Blackbaud) to ensure the accuracy of each student scholarship offers and award. Assists the Director in the Banner system set-up for scholarship awarding. Works with the Business Office to resolve scholarship disbursement exception reports. Reviews and resolves discrepancies related to scholarship disbursements and student eligibility. Collaborates with the Office of Recruitment to assist with the awarding of university merit scholarship. Responsible for reviewing Merit Scholarship appeals. Maintains scholarship criteria for record retention. Serves as the liaison to the athletic department including the management and oversight of athletic awards. Maintain ongoing relations by initiating and responding to internal/external constituents. Serves on the University Scholarship Committee to implement, coordinate, and monitor scholarship criteria and agreements. Works closely with the Director to provide leadership and guidance to departmental working groups. Collaborates with faculty and staff to promote scholarships. Participates actively in enrollment management and student retention activities through outreach and internal/external communication. Ensures that the administration of the University scholarship programs are consistent with the institutional regulations and policies governing their administration and coordinates appropriately and timely communication to outreach staff as appropriate. Assists the Director with preparing scholarship reports for staff, University officials, and external organizations for internal and external audits. Creates, manages, and revises the policies and procedures manual for the student University scholarship program(s). Along with the Director, provides leadership for identifying opportunities for innovating ways of processing University scholarships. Provides direct support to the Director to carry out the recommendations, instructions, and initiatives. Coordinates/Collaborates with the outreach and advising staff on research and analysis activities and reports regarding University scholarship programs and related customer service and intervention. Coordinates with the outreach staff to ensure that University scholarship information is accurately conveyed to financial aid advisors in a timely manner. Performs other related duties as assigned. Bachelor's degree Seven years of related experience. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of higher education. Knowledge of student financial aid processes and related federal and state regulations. Oral and written communication skills. Organizational skills. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Demonstrated leadership ability. Ability to solve complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications
Eight years of experience in financial aid and/or scholarship experience.
Experience
in leading and/or supervising staff.
