This position is located in Guilford County in the Jamestown Resident Engineer’s Office. This is an Engineering Technician II position that supports higher level technicians and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying, material sampling and testing, and construction traffic control. Position requires the performance of standardized and non-standardized tests and the assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing and processing field data. Selected candidate may supervise lower-level technicians and CEI personnel and help in coordination of work assignments. Work functions may include highway construction surveying and layout. Selected candidate must be proficient in record keeping. Selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary. Daily duties will include keeping diaries on project operations, completing various material reports, documenting pay records, performing construction calculations, and computer/iPad entry. Ability to establish and maintain positive lines of communication between other technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public. Work involves independent decision making and the use of judgement. Must be able to document and take corrective actions and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Ability to complete daily diaries, survey notes and other record keeping items manually and electronically. Be able to perform construction related mathematical calculations. This position will be required to acquire various certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, Borrow Pit Sampling and OSHA Certifications. Selected candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds, work in high traffic areas, work at heights over water or traffic, work in extreme temperatures, traverse uneven terrain, and work at night and weekends, if necessary. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe footwear is required for this position. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation. . Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC09: $41,206 - $72,113 Management prefers applicants with the following:

Experience

with contract administration Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.

Experience

in performing inspection, sampling, and testing materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT Specifications. Working knowledge of computer equipment (iPad and desktop), software (HiCAMS and SharePoint), and mathematical functions.

Experience

in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry. Minimum

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
