Responsibilities
The URMC Flow Cytometry Resource (FCR) is seeking an Research Technician III. This individual’s primary duties will be supporting the Operations Manager and Technical Director of the Flow Cytometry SRL in maintenance and operation of all instruments. This individuals major focus will be on supporting investigators in running samples on cell sorters and analyzers. Additionally this individual will work in conjunction with the staff on daily general lab duties. The associate will be required to work with limited direction and report frequently to the Operations Manager and senior instrumentation specialists. They will maintain a high level of communication with staff and facility directors to ensure consistent operation and customer service. Must demonstrate ICARE values in all aspects of the position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Independent operation of cell sorting instrumentation in support of investigators research goals. Instrument maintenance and QC of all FCR equipment Independent operation of and analytical flow cytometry instrumentation in support of investigators research goals. Independently work on projects related to development of innovative techniques to benefit the facility and that can be presented at regional and national meetings. Other projects and job duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High School diploma or GED and 5 years experience with performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities; compiling and collecting data and preparing reports required Associate's degree in Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study preferred Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, or related field preferred One year of experience with performing flow cytometry experimentation preferred Or equivalent combination of education and experience KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and scientific methods required Excellent communication skills, including written communication preferred. Strong ability to multi-task effectively and work in high-pressure situations preferred.
