Job Description The Golden Lab in the Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Technologist 1. About this Opportunity The Golden Lab focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms and circuits guiding motivated social behavior using rodent models, with a special interest in translational studies of reward, motivation, addiction, and depression. This position will support collaborative research studies between the Golden Lab and the Heshmati Research Group in the Center for Neurobiology of Addiction Pain & Emotion. The Heshmati Research Group studies neural mechanisms mediating the effects of general anesthesia in the brain, as well as the brain circuitry engaged by arousal, pain, and motivated social behavior. Reporting to Dr. Golden, the Research Technologist 1 will perform technical procedures evaluating, selecting, and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives; assignments require investigation of a limited number of variables and few complex features. May guide the work of peer technicians, or other support staff as necessary to achieve specific assignments. RESPONSIBILITIES: The minimum major duties and responsibility are as follows, under the guidance of the PI and senior researchers, with a direct report to Dr. Golden: Experiment Assistance & Mice Colony Management (50%) Transgenic and wild-type mice colony management, including breeding and weaning. Set up breeding cages for genetic crosses and wean litters of mice. Collect samples for genotyping and perform genotyping PCR. Transfer mouse cages between facilities upon request. Track mouse colony census and provide reports to supervisor. Communicate with vivarium staff and maintain compliance with animal protocols. General laboratory maintenance of vivarium and bench lab spaces. Assist postdoctoral fellows and graduate students on various projects as required and within scope of position. General Lab Operations Support (50%) Assist with writing and maintaining lab protocols, licenses and databases. Assist with updating laboratory websites. Procure and organize lab supplies. Maintain lab supply inventory. Required

Qualifications
Must be willing and able to work with live mice. Although a mask/respirator is worn, individuals with known rodent allergy are discouraged from applying. Must be knowledgeable about mouse handling, and previous mouse experience is strongly preferred. Preference is given to individuals with previous experience breeding transgenic mouse colonies. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Familiarity with one programming language, particularly Python, is desirable but not required. An interest and willingness to learn new methods. A willingness to self-initiate troubleshooting of technical hurdles. Must be highly motivated, organized, and punctual.
