Job Description ***For best consideration candidates must complete the online application and attach a resume and cover letter*** SUMMARY: The Yang Lab at the University of Richmond (Richmond, VA) is seeking a full-time post-baccalaureate research assistant for a two-year NSF-funded position, start date as soon as possible following completion of the search (anticipated Fall 2026). The lab uses computational methods to study evolutionary genomics, with a focus on human genomic prehistory. The research assistant will develop and apply bioinformatic pipelines for studying genetic adaptation in modern humans, with opportunities for co-authorship on publications. The position is designed for an individual planning to apply to PhD programs who wants substantial independent research beforehand. This position offers $21.00 per hour with full-time benefits including health insurance. RESPONSIBILITIES: Apply, develop, and improve computational pipelines for studying evolutionary genomics in high-performance computing environments. Develop, test, and edit protocols and websites used for Yang Lab associated research and teaching. Perform general tasks that will advance Yang Lab-related research and outreach, e.g. mentoring undergraduate students, organizing summer workshops. Keep accurate and detailed records of analyses and code using a lab notebook and version-controlled workflows. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field. Previous experience with computing, e.g. experience with Python and/or a Linux environment. Effective written communication skills as evidenced by application materials. Preferred: Demonstrated interest in human evolutionary genomics and/or computational genomics. Biological research experience ideally with computational elements, including troubleshooting and optimizing protocols. Evidence of strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and independent work habits. Strong ability to work in group situations, and to mentor others, particularly undergraduate students.
