Previous applicants must reapply to be considered. Position will serve as Engineering Technician II in Randolph County Maintenance and assist in the inspection of roadway assets and inventories. Position will assist in preliminary inspection work for RMIP and HMIP highway maintenance programs and serve as county-wide erosion and sediment control/storm water site manager. Inspections may include storm drains and appurtenances, roadway surface treatment condition, highway safety related issues, etc. Position will also perform entry-level technical work involving sampling of materials, testing, and inspection duties to determine adherence to codes/standards by both DOT and private contractors; perform weekly county-wide guardrail damage assessment; assist in NPDES inspections and record keeping; conduct weekly and/or 1 inch rainfall assessments of each secondary road project; assist in facility compliance assessments; and assist maintenance crews as instructed by supervisor. Additional expectations of the position include the ability to conduct routine inspections for compliance with standards, specifications; compliance with terms of contracts and knowledge/understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in highway/utility construction and in general highway maintenance; the ability to read and interpret construction plans; and general knowledge of mathematical functions. Position is subject to emergency callback including snow and ice removal. Employee may be required to work at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays to fulfill inspection, maintenance operations, and surveying duties. The position requires the ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain. Moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing is required and must be able to lift 50lbs. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Selected applicant will be expected to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe footwear required. Experience
