Job Description Summary: UM Ventures provides in-house technology commercialization capability to complement the research administrative support services provided to the University's research community. The Intellectual Property (IP) Associate is responsible for maintaining appropriate intellectual property protection by: reviewing invention disclosure information, drafting and preparing various administrative and IP related documentation, and monitoring the database for accuracy and integrity so deadlines are satisfied. The Intellectual Property Associate reports to the Assistant Director, Operations. Physical Demands: Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to attend meetings both on and off campus. Spending long hours in front of a computer screen. Licenses/Certifications: N/A Minimum

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

One (1) year of professional experience drafting, editing, and preparing patent prosecution documents. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of federal intellectual property law and policies. Knowledge of procedures and regulations of the patent prosecution process. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to work on multiple projects and programs simultaneously. Ability to conduct research and analysis for aid program development. Ability to analyze data and provide insight and recommendations to stakeholders. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
