Qualifications

Education

/ Certification: Bachelor’s degree AND three (3) years of teaching experience. RSPA Membership (Racquet Sports Professional Association) or PTR membership (Professional Tennis Registry). Supervisory or Program management experience at a tennis facility. Strong knowledge of solid supervisory practices and principles with the ability to motivate, train, lead and oversee the work of others.

Experience

with Junior Development is highly desirable.

Experience

/ Competencies: Management: Commitment to teamwork and accountability, with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and taking initiative. Strong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to resolve customer service issues, develop and measure metrics, and produce reports in a variety of formats to further the goals of the Tennis Center. Proficiency in a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office, databases, and web-based applications. Familiarity with Social Media. Marketing and Retail:

Experience

in operating a for profit retail business environment to include budget development and management, Point of Sale (POS) use and management.

Experience

in developing and executing marketing plans and programs, tournaments, clinics and exhibition match with a goal of increased revenue generation. Knowledge of retail management principles and successful office practices with the ability to support integrated technology in a retail setting. Tennis and Skill Development:

Experience

teaching and training a diverse customer base and adapting teaching to learning styles. Strong customer service orientation with the ability to analyze customers’ needs and offer appropriate types of products and/or services to meet the customer’s needs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the demonstrated ability effectively interacting and work collaboratively with staff, faculty, students and other customers using tact and discretion in all interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Club Automation or similar POS system. NTRP Rating of 4.5 Club management experience, preferably in a tennis facility, is highly preferred. USTA Tournament experience is desirable. (Proficient in Serve Tennis Program). Prior college playing experience is highly desirable. Conditions of Employment: This position is subject to additional hours beyond the typical work week to include occasional weekends and holidays. Must hold RSPA or PTR certification upon employment. Must achieve RSPA Elite rating within three years. USTA Membership – Condition of Tournament Director Role. This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.

Duties

50% - Tennis and Events: Teach private and/or group lessons to Tennis Center customers at least 25 hours a week. Promote additional services to existing customers to maximize revenue to the Center. Acting Tournament Director for all sanctioned and unsanctioned tournaments Seek and promote new customer base of Professional tennis services. Manage all special events, leagues, and social events. Manage Junior clinics. String rackets as necessary. 20% - Business Operations: In partnership with the Associate Director, Market the Tennis Center and all programs to students, faculty, staff and alumni and guests of the college. Coordinate and promote growth of the Tennis Center by driving profitable group events and effectively managing the Center for the use of MNTC members, William and Mary students and the intercollegiate tennis teams. In partnership with the Associate Director, establish program goals for the year. Initiate and execute a marketing plan that will drive business year over year. Develop and measure metrics to evaluate strategy for next year. Manage the marketing plan (Promote, coordinate, and execute events to include tournaments, clinics, lessons, and exhibition matches). Establish protocols and guidelines to facilitate resolving questions/problems at the Center. 15% - Leadership/Staff Operations: Promote strong professional interaction with faculty staff and students that results in high customer service satisfaction. Provide supervisory oversight to teaching staff who will perform lessons and clinics and ensure both support and professional staff are trained. Ensure Tennis Center employees and student workers are educated and able to successfully educate walk-ins and existing members on products and services offered and deliver excellent and responsive service. Serve as the main contact for all on-court activities. Ensure all programming is always staffed. Create and implement programs and lesson plans that are customized to the needs of the members. Supervise less experienced pros in a teaching setting. Monitor, demonstrate, and instruct students on proper techniques and strategies to improve their overall tennis game. Ensure students understand tennis rules, scoring procedures, safety rules, and tennis etiquette. 10% - Performance Management: Expectations are clear, well communicated, and relate to the goals and objectives of the department or unit. Staff receive frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate. Staff have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish goals. The requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met, and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation. Performance issues are addressed and documented as they occur. Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. 5% - Other
