Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Maintain a valid driver’s license. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to learn various software and emergency response systems. Ability to acquire and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to work with staff at all levels. Must have excellent public contact skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment under stress.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous security, military, law enforcement, public safety, and/or museum experience.

Experience

working in higher education or academic/research environment. Demonstrated knowledge of the operations of a university or cultural institutions encompassing museums, historical properties and collections. Conditions of Employment: All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year. The person in this position will work under direct supervision. Routine tasks will be completed without direct supervision. Activities will be monitored by the direct supervisor and Museum administration. The person in this position will seek guidance for all activities that are beyond the normal activities. This position includes nights, weekends, and occasional holiday shifts. Must meet the physical conditions of the job. This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor. This position has been designated as essential and may require reporting to work when the university is officially closed. Duties

70% - Muscarelle Security: Provide continual patrol of museum building to ensure the safety of faculty, staff, students, visitors and property including art and cultural assets. Enforce museum rules and regulations with visitors. Monitors and maintains crowd control and flow of exiting guests of the museum and special events. Ensure all doors and windows are properly secured, and all building conditions are normal during operating hours and for opening/closing procedures. Look for safety hazards and suspicious incidents or people and reports building concerns to Museum administration and Facilities Management. Responds to requests to unlock doors, accompany staff to their vehicles and investigate problems. Respond to fire alarms and reset alarm equipment as needed. Prepare and submit written reports and/or daily logs for their shift. 25% - Grounds Patrol: Provide frequent patrol of museum grounds to ensure the safety of campus. Look for safety hazards and suspicious incidents or people and report to William & Mary Police. Assist with medical calls as needed. 5% - Other

Duties

Other duties/projects as assigned and may include providing security escorts for William & Mary community and special guests as requested.
