Student Assistant for Communications & Graphic Design
Job description
The Student Assistant for Communications & Graphic Design will play an integral role in supporting both communications and creative design efforts in Student Success. This position combines communication strategy, content development, and student outreach with graphic design and multimedia content creation for digital and print platforms. Applicants should anticipate working approximately 15–20 hours per week during the academic year from September 2026 through May 2027. Compensation is $17-$21/hour depending on experience. This position is primarily in-person, with some opportunities for remote work and virtual meetings. Some evening and event support hours may occasionally be required. RESPONSIBILITIES Communications & Outreach Copyedit and proofread Student Success communications Gather, organize, and develop content for the bi-weekly Student Newsletter and monthly Belonging Bulletin Board, including messaging related to student resources, university initiatives, cultural heritage months, and campus events Assist with maintaining the communication calendar, blog, and other organizational systems for divisional communications Respond to timely student inquiries in the studentquestions@newschool.edu inbox. Design & Social Media Create Canva graphics for Student Success events, programs, social media @NewSchoolStudentLife, newsletters, presentations, and campaigns. Create social media content and monitor social media trends and contribute ideas for engaging, student-centered digital content Support photography, videography, and multimedia content collection during programs and events MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be a current full-time New School student pursuing a degree. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally Strong editing and proofreading skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Proficiency in Canva. Ability to follow The New School’s brand and style guidelines. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Full-time New School student pursuing a Graduate degree. Previous experience in communications, media, marketing, design, or a related field. Previous communications, marketing, social media, or design experience.
Experience
creating content for social media, newsletters, email, or other digital platforms. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Experience
with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience
with email platforms such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact. Familiarity with The New School and its student community.
